What is the best Mountain bike?

What is the best Mountain bike? – A good Mountain bike or to some a mountain bicycle is a bike created for off –road cycling (all terrain bike) , these bikes need to be able to withstand all off- road obstacles thrown to them such as steep declines, rough steep hills, dirt trails, logged roads, washouts, traversing of rocks and other unpaved environment.

The best Mountain bike share the same resemblance with other common bike, but incorporate special designed features to enhance durability and performance in very rough terrain and can range from $500 to $10,000 in cost if you’re  looking to own one. The modern Mountain Bike come in varies models or makes- just to mention a few that are covered on our website in great details.  Scott Mountain Bike is one of my favorite, followed by Kona Mountain bike, Connondale mountain bikes and then other like Mongoose, Downhill and Norco mountain bike.

Most of these modern bikes come with Mountain Bike Fork in the front or dual suspension, 26” inch and also 29” inch or 27.5” inch diameter tires, usually from 1.7” to 2.5” inches in width, and wider, flat or upwardly – rising handlebar that allows a more upright riding position. They have a smaller, reinforced frame work, usually made of wide tubing. The tires are usually have a pronounced lugged tread, and mounted on rims which are stronger than those used on most non – mountain bicycles

Compared to other standard bike, a good mountain bike also tends to more frequently use disc brakes and indexed gears.  They also tend to have a larger gear ratio to facilitate climbing steep hills and traversing obstacles.

General speaking, enhanced durability and off road capability adds up to the bike’s weight to rider ratio than touring mountain bikes as recent trends show, this include the use of fixed gear systems, single speed systems and internal gear systems.

The designs of a mountain bike can be classified into four key categories mainly based on suspension

·         A Fully Rigid Mountain Bike – these  is  a  bike design with a framework  with a rigid front fork and fixed rear without any suspension

·         A Soft Tail Mountain Bike – this  design of a soft tail is a framework with small amount of rear suspension, activated by flex of the frame instead of pivots

·         Hard Tail Mountain Bike – The framework as a front suspension mountain bike fork  and no rear suspension

·         Dual or Full Suspension Mountain Bike – the only design the front suspension mountain bike fork and rear suspension that comes with rear shock and linkage that allow the rear wheel to move on pivots.

Mountain biking is an individual sport that requires endurance, core strength and balance, bike handling skills and self –reliance, is the kind of sports a family can go out there and enjoy—there are varies type of mountain bikes, from kids mountain bikes and also womens mountain bikes models in the making your can choose, from styles, colour and sizes you name it..  There are several different styles of mountain biking, usually defined by the terrain, and therefore bikes employed.

Styles of mountain bike riding and mountain bikes have evolved rapidly in recent years leading to terms such Freeride and Trail Bike being used to categorize mountain bikes
to conclude, the best mountain bike still remains durable, light in weight and comfortable to the rider Its aim is to giving great enjoyments with a vast choose of models that includes my list of favorites Scott Mountain bike, Kona Mountain bike, Connondale mountain bikes to select from and to match an individual endurance, strength and balance test that is called for on diverse rough terrain off the road riding.  Most good bike are designed primary around the discipline of cross country racing, Cross country racing with its emphasis  on climbing as well as speed and endurance demands bikes
that are both lightweight and efficient.

What is the Proper Way to Shift Gears on a Mountain Bike?

I have a 21 speed Giant brand mountain bike, 3 high gears and 7 low. I only switch the low gear when I’m in first gear and trying to climb a hill. I only switch the high gear when the low gear is at its highest (otherwise the chain is guaranteed to fall off due to the angle).

I have tried shifting while pedaling, while not pedaling, while not moving, while pedaling backwards, every way I can imagine, but for some reason the chain seems to fall off an awful lot. It’s a real time consuming pain to get it back on, and I end up with a lot of grease stains on my clothing and hands. Should I be pedaling when I shift? Is it okay to shift down after stopping (to make it easier to start pedaling again)? What is it that is causing the chain to fall off while I’m riding? Thanks a lot to anyone who can help me!

Answer: Yes, you should be pedaling when you shift. Things I learned from the Sheldon Brown site below: I used to ride a higher gear (pushing) while climbing ala Jan Ullrich. I now spin ala Lance Armstrong icon smile What is the Proper Way to Shift Gears on a Mountain Bike? I also didn’t know about “criss-cross” gears. Check out the site, it’s explained in simple terms. Good luck!
